Crazy things go through my head as I’m thinking ahead and rounding the bend into the New Year. You reading this are saying, “It’s not even Halloween yet. What are you talking about?”
Well let me explain. If you are going to be thankful at Thanksgiving and wishful at Christmas, it has to include the New Year because you have to include the past, the present and the future in all your thankfulness and wishfulness. So this means thinking of the New Year now.
Fact is, whether it’s consciously or unconsciously thought about, New Years is always part of our lives. Every time we talk about hopes and dreams for the future, that’s all the New Years to get there. Every time we talk about family plans and retirement and vacations, that’s all the New Years to set them in place. We are a never ending line of New Years always in motion to get to the next one to see what it will be like. And we always hope that the one coming will be better than the one that’s leaving.
So you see, our future is really all of our New Years to come, which we are always looking forward to and thinking about all the time. So I’m really not too early to be thinking about New Years.
Interesting perspective isn’t it? What do you think?
WE KEEP our friendships in our most SECRET parts of ourselves as defined by only us. They are the matches to our lives where we go to tell our secrets, cry , laugh , sing, dance, party, and share the deepest parts of our lives with. We bless them, we hate them, we love them, we are jealous of them, we forgive them, and we know we can’t live without them.
I found the above poem many years ago and I like it because it best explains the truth of what I see friendship to be. It had no author listed and it reads:
A friend is one who knows you as you are,
Understands where you’ve been,
Accepts who you’ve become,
And still invites you to grow.
May you take a moment to bless them all in your lives now. Whether you forget them in a week or they are still in your life in 10 years. Bless them. For they are like the fabric that holds us all together. They are a reminder that we are all connected through the etheric energetic strings of the universe and that any one of us can hold the other through those strings anytime we want to. Friends are there for the prayers we say in the moment of triumph and in the despair of grief at the loss a loved one. They hold us and we hold them. The fabric is whole.
WEB OF LIFE by Dawn M Cheney
We weave a web of life.
And others we entwine with ours
To form the ebb and flow
That makes it all worth while.
What is the difference between you and them? How come they count and you don’t’? When do you get to make the difference?
These are all questions many of us have asked ourselves over and over again growing up being sure that everyone else had the power to make the difference, but not us. This is also the basic belief of a major portion of the population of the world today. No one wants to act on his or her own or get involved because they think they have no power to make a difference, so why bother. And inside this belief folds the inaction that has brought the world to the brink of disaster over and over again.
We all seem to have been taught in a similar fashion that the “true” representation of power is outside of us; parents, teachers, bosses, the government, the news, etc. That it relates to money, control, leadership, and possession. No place for weakness and compassion here, or even yourself. Just knuckle down and grind away to get to the top before the other guy does so that you are the one with the power, the one in control, not them.
This inaccurate belief is a misconception of the true meaning of power. True power comes from within you. With the power within yourself you can move mountains one step at a time. Mother Teresa was not a giant, but she had the heart to be her own true self. She wasn’t an army of church workers coming to save the world. She wasn’t rich and powerful ruling over everyone. She was simply one person who stood in her place and changed things one step at a time to make a difference. This is true power, the power within.
Turn the key and unlock the true power within yourself. Take a belief and stick with it working out one step at a time to find the difference you can make in yourself and then see how it spreads to others. You see that is where the real difference begins, inside you with your life, not outside with someone else life.
You’ll be surprised at what you can accomplish when you learn that the difference is you.
